City of Kerman’s Lions Park Recharge Project Receives Environmental Award

Our member agency City of Kerman’s Lions Park Recharge Project has been recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) with an award in the small environmental projects category. The project reflects strong collaboration among the City of Kerman, Fresno Irrigation District (FID), the North Kings GSA, and the Department of Water Resources.

The project began receiving surface water on April 14 through a new intertie connection to FID’s Siskiyou Canal. Construction on the intertie, completed in December 2024, expanded the City’s ability to return water to the aquifer during years when surface supplies are available. The recharge basin can store up to 260 acre-feet of water annually, supported by a metering system that tracks diversions and recharge activity.

This award highlights the value of local partnerships and continued investment in groundwater sustainability. The Lions Park project directly benefits the Kerman community and contributes to improved groundwater recharge efforts across the North Kings GSA.
