Department of Water Resources releases draft Best Management Practices on managing land subsidence for public comment
The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has released a draft Best Management Practices document on managing land subsidence (land sinking) for public review. The 60-day public comment period is open and closes on September 22.
The document is meant to help statewide groundwater sustainability agencies address land subsidence, support groundwater-reliant communities, and help meet Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) objectives to avoid or minimize current and future impacts of subsidence.
While the North Kings GSA does not have a significant land subsidence issue, it is occurring to a small degree in some areas of the Kings Subbasin. The agency will review the draft document to understand how to address potential impacts from neighboring GSAs.
Those interested are encouraged to submit comments and attend upcoming in-person meetings hosted by DWR in the cities of Clovis, Delano, and Willows. The meeting in Clovis will take place on September 9 at 3:00 PM at the Clovis Veterans Hall. More information about the meetings is available here.
