Fall well readings underway
Fall groundwater level measurements in the North Kings GSA are underway. Measurements are taken at wells throughout the North Kings GSA included in the monitoring network to assess and record current groundwater conditions.
Measuring groundwater levels is a critical data gathering activity happening bi-annually in the fall and spring. Without this data on groundwater levels, there would be no way to evaluate the efforts of North Kings GSA and its member agencies toward sustainable groundwater management.
The measurements are a report card on the progress of achieving long-term objectives outlined in the Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP), in addition to being a required component of the Annual Report due to the State every April.
North Kings GSA member agencies City of Fresno and Fresno Irrigation District conduct most measurements, with the US Bureau of Reclamation monitoring one well in the network. Results from the Fall 2022 water level measurements will be available in the next couple of months but early indications show groundwater levels declining between four and eight feet on average across the GSA boundary.
