Fresno Area Groundwater Agency Will Hold Series of Workshops to Support Well Owners as Well Registration Deadline Approaches

FRESNO, CA — The North Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) is holding a series of public workshops to help all well owners satisfy its well registration requirement ahead of the November 30 deadline.

Well registration is required for all well owners — including domestic, agricultural, and industrial — within the North Kings GSA boundary as of May 1, 2025.

“As the deadline approaches, we want to make sure every person and entity in the North Kings GSA knows about the requirement. We have nearly 1,300 wells registered thanks to extensive outreach efforts so far including road signage, flyer drop-offs, workshops, news coverage, and partnering with organizations to spread the word. We just recently sent mailers to all parcels in the GSA to help close that remaining gap,” said Kassy Chauhan, Executive Officer of North Kings GSA.

The series of workshops and community events will be held at a wide range of locations to help reach community members across the region. The following event dates, times, and locations are below.

Well Registration Workshop – Easton

4:00 – 6:00 PM
Immanuel Lutheran Church

Well Registration Workshop – Fresno

Well owners can attend any of the workshops to learn about California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) and why well registration is such an important piece for continued local groundwater management. Chauhan will give a presentation at the beginning of each workshop and the agency’s support team will provide technical assistance on laptops throughout the remainder of each workshop.

The registry will better the North Kings GSA’s understanding of where wells are located and how many wells are in the region. For domestic well owners, this information will allow the agency to serve as a resource for households who rely on groundwater for their everyday use.

As a groundwater management agency, North Kings GSA is continuing to develop its understanding of how to tackle groundwater level decline. While the agency is actively working to halt the historic decline and achieve stabilized groundwater levels by 2040 under SGMA, it anticipates groundwater levels will continue to decline until then. This may impact households reliant on groundwater wells for their water supply and the registry will help North Kings GSA be a resource for those households before those impacts are felt.

North Kings GSA has made the registration process as straightforward, quick, and user-friendly as possible through an online platform Subcurrent. Well owners are encouraged to bring their laptops or tablets to complete well registration, but the North Kings GSA support team will have extras available when necessary.

The agency understands some folks have limited information available on their well, and asks that even if a well owner does not have every detail, they share whatever they can. A list of well information needed to register can be found at northkingsgsa.org/wellregistration.

Well owners can register their wells anytime at northkingsgsa.subcurrentapp.com. The technical support team is also available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM by phone at (559) 693-5119 or by email at wells@northkingsgsa.org.

The North Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) is a Joint Powers Authority formed in December 2016 through adoption of a Joint Powers Agreement by the following public agencies: Fresno Irrigation District, the County of Fresno, the City of Fresno, the City of Clovis, the City of Kerman, Biola Community Services District, Garfield Water District, and International Water District. Following adoption, these founding members approved membership of Bakman Water Company and the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District through separate binding agreements. You can find out more about North Kings GSA at northkingsgsa.org/about.

North Kings GSA is one of seven GSAs located in the Kings Subbasin. The Kings Subbasin GSAs have developed GSPs as a unified effort and operate under a Coordination Agreement to achieve groundwater sustainability together by 2040 under SGMA.
