North Kings GSA Adjusts Domestic Well Mitigation Funding Allocation Following First Year of Program Implementation
The Kings Subbasin Domestic Well Mitigation Program has been in existence since October 2024. The North Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) Board of Directors has approved dedicating funding for its Domestic Well Mitigation Program, in the amount of $500,000 for Fiscal Year 2026-2027. Unused funds from prior budget years are set aside to create a revolving fund to ensure adequate resources are available for mitigating for dry domestic wells. The Board emphasized the importance of maintaining dedicated funding and reserves to ensure resources remain available when future needs arise.
The Domestic Well Mitigation Program was developed through a coordinated effort among the Kings Subbasin GSAs to address potential impacts to domestic wells due to declining groundwater levels. The program provides a framework for evaluating and responding to requests for assistance.
As North Kings continues implementing its Groundwater Sustainability Plan, the Domestic Well Mitigation Program remains an important tool for addressing potential domestic well impacts and supporting sustainable groundwater management across the GSA.
