North Kings GSA Adopts Budget Focused on Sustainability and Service to all Groundwater Users
The North Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) Board of Directors has approved its Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget, continuing investments in the tools, programs, and resources needed to sustainably manage groundwater on behalf of all groundwater users in the GSA.
The adopted budget supports the GSA’s mission of implementing the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) while providing value to the growers, residents, communities, and organizations that rely on groundwater every day.
One of the largest areas of investment is the continued expansion of the GSA’s Representative Monitoring Network. Accurate groundwater data helps the GSA understand changing conditions across the basin, identify trends, and make informed management decisions. When a GSA can be proactive rather than reactive, water managers and stakeholders both have the ability to arm themselves with information and plan ahead.
The budget also maintains funding for the Domestic Well Mitigation Program, ensuring resources remain available for those whose wells have gone dry due to declining groundwater levels.
Additional funding supports technical consultants, groundwater planning and reporting requirements, public outreach and education, and staff resources needed to implement the Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP). These efforts help ensure that stakeholders have access to information, understand ongoing groundwater management activities, and have opportunities to stay engaged as implementation continues. As groundwater management continues to evolve, North Kings remains committed to serving as a resource for all stakeholders. By investing in reliable data, proactive planning, and public engagement, the GSA can make informed decisions today while helping ensure groundwater remains available for future generations.
