North Kings GSA Passes $1M Budget for Mitigation Program

The North Kings GSA Board of Directors unanimously passed a $1 million budget for the domestic well mitigation program. The funds will be used to administer the program, and financially support mitigating wells that have gone dry due to declining groundwater levels.

The Mitigation Program first launched in October 2024. It not only helps support well owners facing impacts of groundwater level declines, but also helps the GSA comply with the expectations of the state for adequately addressing Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) requirements. The program was one of the corrective actions identified by the state in its review of the Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP); addressing corrective actions was required to maintain approval on the Plan, foundational to keeping local control in the subbasin.

The Mitigation Program is financially managed through a reserve of $3 million through the Domestic Well Mitigation Program Revolving Fund.
