North Kings GSA submits updated Groundwater Sustainability Plan to the State
The North Kings GSA has submitted its updated Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP or Plan) to the Department of Water Resources (DWR). The submission marks a key milestone, as this version directly addresses DWR’s 12 corrective actions to maintain Plan approval – foundational to maintain local control over the SGMA process.
The efforts to update the Plan included a highly coordinated effort between the seven Kings Subbasin GSAs to ensure the Subbasin stays on track with locally led efforts to achieve long-term groundwater sustainability.
GSP implementation efforts remain ongoing as the North Kings GSA continues to advance the objectives laid out in its Plan. The final updated GSP is available on the North Kings GSA’s GSP page, where you can also learn more about Kings Subbasin coordination and recent developments in the GSP process.
In addition to submitting updated GSPs, the Kings Subbasin submitted its first Periodic Evaluation and updated Coordination Agreement to DWR. Periodic Evaluations are a progress report for each evaluation cycle – at least every five years after initial GSP submission. The report provides a detailed analysis of the Subbasin’s progress in implementing its GSP, including current groundwater conditions, achievements, ongoing challenges, and strategies for overcoming those challenges to ensure sustainability objectives are met.
A Coordination Agreement is required in subbasins where two or more GSPs are developed like in the Kings; it establishes the operational framework for the GSAs within the Subbasin. Visit our GSP page to download the Periodic Evaluation and updated Coordination Agreement.
