Residential Water Meter Retrofit Project
Project Overview
The City of Fresno implemented a Residential Water Meter Retrofit Project, requiring the installation of water meters on all residential service connections in 2013. By having meters installed, residents can track and reduce their water usage, identify leaks, and contribute to local sustainability efforts. With 43,600 acre-feet of water saved a year, the project enhances the city’s water management and supports long-term sustainability.
Project Highlights:
Installed 73,152 water meters in residential homes
Decreased water usage by 25% in the first year
Conserves 43,600 acre-feet of water per year
Project Funding
The Residential Water Meter Retrofit Project was supported by $51 million in funding from the State Water Resources Control Board’s Safe Drinking Water State Revolving Fund and $1.4 million in grant funding through Proposition 84 from the Upper Kings Basin Integrated Regional Water Management Authority
