Technical Workgroup Convenes to Address Comments on Groundwater Sustainability Plan
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) has completed their 2-year review of the North Kings Groundwater Sustainability Agency’s Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP). The North Kings GSP is one of 42 other GSPs covering 20 groundwater basins statewide that were reviewed by DWR as required by the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act.
As with most of the GSPs in the Valley, the North Kings GSP was determined to be incomplete, which means corrective actions must be taken within 180 days. DWR recognizes no plan is perfect and that these plans represent significant locally led efforts to change how groundwater is monitored, managed, and used. Many of the issues identified within the North Kings GSP are either items that need clarification or more critical review.
The North Kings GSA staff and consultants will immediately begin the work of addressing DWR’s comments through the Technical Workgroup with the first working meeting scheduled for February 4 at 11 am. All meetings will be held virtually until further notice and are open to the public.
Once the draft revisions are prepared, stakeholders will have a number of opportunities to provide feedback to staff and the Board prior to resubmitting the revised GSP to DWR. The North Kings GSA Board has been committed to an open and transparent process with its diverse stakeholders.
