Updated Groundwater Sustainability Plan available for public comment

The North Kings GSA has released its updated Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP or Plan) for public review. The GSP was updated to address the corrective actions identified by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR).

Addressing these actions is crucial to maintain the approval granted in 2023 by DWR and proceed with local control over the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) implementation process.

A public comment period is being held as an opportunity for stakeholders to review and provide feedback. The GSP is available for review on the North Kings GSA website.

The public comment period began October 11 and will conclude with a public hearing on Thursday, November 21 at 6:00 PM. The public hearing will take place at the Fresno Irrigation District office before the North Kings GSA Board of Directors meeting.

All stakeholders are encouraged to review the Plan and provide comments. There are three ways to submit a public comment:

  1.  Online at the North Kings GSA website.
  2. By email to northkingsgsa@gmail.com
  3.  By mail to the North Kings GSA at 2907 S Maple Avenue, Fresno, CA 93725

The updated GSP was drafted as a highly coordinated effort between the North Kings GSA and the six other Kings Subbasin GSAs to address the corrective actions outlined by DWR. While all seven GSPs were approved, a significant milestone for implementing groundwater sustainability measures at the local level, it was on the condition that the GSAs address these corrective actions.
