Water Conditions Report

According to a water conditions report given by Fresno Irrigation District (FID) Assistant General Manager, Adam Claes, water conditions have been improving thanks to late season storms, despite a previously forecasted drier-than-average year.

The current snow water content is slightly below last year’s levels, but still tracking close to average. The Department of Water Resources Bulletin 120 suggests an 86% of average runoff for the Kings River, compared to April through July 2024’s runoff, which was nearly 100% of average. Precipitation in the southern Sierra foothills has been good from February to March. Statewide, California forecasted runoff is at 100% of average as of April 8th. While the percent of average water locally and statewide is less than last year, recent storms have helped recover drier conditions and boost water supplies.

As of the March 27th board meeting, FID has over 100,000 acre-feet of water storage in Pine Flat Reservoir due to recent storms.

Adam reported that FID’s water deliveries began April 1, and North Kings GSA encourages growers to take as much surface water as possible to preserve the aquifer.
