Well Registration Shifting to Enforcement

The North Kings GSA’s well registration effort has made significant progress, helping strengthen groundwater data and improve our understanding of groundwater use across the GSA. To date, more than 8,200 wells have been registered by well owners through the program.

Well registration is a critical component of sustainable groundwater management. It helps improve our understanding of groundwater use, supports long-term planning, and ensures compliance with SGMA requirements.

With a significant number of wells now registered, North Kings GSA is focusing on identifying remaining unregistered wells and working with landowners to bring those wells into compliance. The GSA is currently developing an enforcement policy to support continued compliance with well registration requirements.

Next steps for the GSA include:

  • Identifying parcels with unregistered wells
  • Conducting targeted outreach and notification efforts
  • Working directly with landowners to complete registrations

Landowners with unregistered wells are encouraged to complete registration through Subcurrent as soon as possible to ensure compliance and avoid future enforcement actions once the GSA’s enforcement policy is implemented.

Landowners who have already registered wells, or would like to confirm an existing registration, can log into their Subcurrent account at https://subcurrentapp.com/ to review registered well information on their dashboard.
